FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What grade of Matcha is this, and how do I use it? This is Classic Ceremonial Grade Matcha, which is meant to be prepared as tea. The traditional preparation is to simply whisk the Matcha powder with hot water, then enjoy. What’s the difference between Culinary and Ceremonial grades? Simple: Culinary grade is meant for mixing into recipes as an ingredient, while Ceremonial grade is meant to be prepared traditionally as a tea (just mixed with hot water and whisked). Ceremonial allows you to enjoy the true taste of Matcha, as the Japanese have for centuries. Does it contain caffeine? Yes, each half-teaspoon (1g) serving contains roughly 34mg of caffeine, about 1/3 a cup of coffee. However, Matcha also contains L-Theanine, which has a calming and leveling affect, so it doesn’t make you feel jittery or wired like coffee does. What are other health benefits? – Boosts metabolism and helps burns calories – Calms and relaxes you from stress or anxiety – Rich in antioxidants (137x the amount in conventional green tea!) Can I still use Ceremonial Grade in recipes? Of course! Many iced tea and cocktail recipes even specifically call for Ceremonial Grade Matcha. Where does this Matcha come from? Our Matcha is grown by Nagata Chaen, a single estate, organically focused family farm near the city of Uji in Kyoto, Japan. What if I don’t like it? The Fujian Province of China is the birthplace for the semi-oxidized Oolong teas. Oolong teas, aka wulong or black dragon, are made from large leaves that are produced in the late Spring. Unlike other types of tea that contain the top leaves and the buds of the bush, oolong teas are large well formed leaves that will sometimes also contain the stem of the bush. Oolongs differ from green, black and white teas by the method of processing and are the most labor intensive tea to produce. Each type of Oolong varies in the percentage of oxidation and the method in which it is processed (some are twisted, tippy leaves, some are cut, some are rolled into small balls). From China comes this invigorating, full-bodied Oolong tea that has a lingering flavor with a taste of earthiness.
Premium Formosa oolong tea flavored with sweet peaches. In the famous poem ‘The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock’, T.S. Eliot wrote, ‘do I dare to eat a peach?’ The literary-minded folks at Adagio have taken it upon themselves to provide Mr. Eliot with an answer: no need to eat one. Just steep a cup of our Peachy White Tea. Please, be a peach. Give this tea a try. Cultivation of peaches began in China as early as 2000BC. A Chinese bride was referred to as a peach. The winds of trade brought peaches to Greece and Persia, where they were instantly accepted. The juicy fruit was also a big hit with the Romans, who cultivated it throughout the empire. From Italy, peaches made the leap across the Atlantic, where early settlers planted them throughout the east coast. Soon they were so plentiful, local botanists though of them as native fruits.
