Product Description

Brief Introduction:

In traditional Chinese herbalism, pu-erh tea is considered to open the meridians, 'warm the middle burner' (the spleen and stomach) and be beneficial to 'blood cleansing' and digestion. For these reasons, it is often consumed after heavy meals or drunk as a hangover cure / preventative. Some studies have shown that pu-erh may lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure and increase metabolism. Pu-erh is occasionally touted as a 'diet tea.

Free product provided for review and evaluation.See attached pictures please. I do hope they can help some of the more discerning tea drinkers with selection. My main concern about this tea is that it is advertised as being from ancient trees, but the leaf size that I saw was fairly small and appeared to be more common to younger bushes. That said, I still liked the tea and found it pleasant to drink. I probably would not gift it a tea connoisseur though. The cake arrived wrapped in rice paper in a very attractive Chinese paper bag. The disk was well pressed and appeared to be mainly brown, close to black, with some lighter more golden bits.I carefully separated the leaves but noticed no matter how hard I tried, it was hard not to break them. The leaves are smaller in size and there were few buds present, and plenty of stems. It appears to me to be from younger tea bushes.I prepared it using the traditional method. I used the first cup for cleaning only, but noticed that it developed an extremely dark color almost immediately. The color is a dark brown tinged cherry red.Successive cups were enjoyable, which is why I rate this a 4. I DO like this tea. It's not the best tea I've ever had, but it is very good. The initial cups were earthy, fermented, and fairly smooth. Color developed quickly with very quick 5-7 second steeps. It seems to have a good caffeine content, but cup 5, which had much more red in the coloration, I was wide awake and feeling perky. Hints of cherry started to develop, with some smooth woodiness and vanilla. Cup 7 started bringing a bit of slight acrid pine aftertaste in, which I, personally really liked. After cup 10 it started to lighten somewhat.

This is simply the best tea I have ever had ! I am a connoisseur of teas, have lived all over the earth and have had native teas in all the tea producing countries; after I found the Yunnan teas (the pu erhs), I felt I had reached the pinnacle of teas that are available: This pu erh is not the most expensive (I have tried that also), and this is by far my favorite. The taste is impeccable tea; and it's healthy ! It helped keep the people of the Yunnan mountains alive and well for the last 3000 to 4000 years, along with Chinese medicines (herbals, plants, etc...).. I use Ayurveda health system from India, and Pu Erh teas from China, I am 76 year old male and continue to be healthy in mind and body......I have lived for long times in Asia and feel more Asian than Western now: have practiced Tibetan Buddhism since 1977 when I lived in India.......Try this specific Pu Erh; it's 'simply the best' ! yogi, tucson desert

Didn't taste like the Pu-erh tea I had before. This one came across as muddy, murky, with a super strong taste

I bought Pu Erh tea because of it's reported health benefits. Though I am a tea drinker everyday, I was uncertain what to find here. THe interesting thing is that once I got used to the taste, which is quite earthy at first, I've become a big fan. I have yet to see whether it's had any effect on me lipid profile (one of the claims for it) and I cannot confirm that it has made any difference in my subcutaneous fat deposits, but it's a good tea. I have it at breakfast most days and am happy with having bought it. Breaking off the right size pieces takes a bit of work sometimes.

This tea has helped me to wean off coffee in the AM completely because it is just as rich and great with milk and sweetener. I actually quite prefer it now. It's expensive so to make it last longer I use the same brewed tea for 2-3 days. I just cover the brewed leaves in the tea strainer with Saran wrap and brew it again the next two days. I know some here have said you can stretch it further but it gets weak after about 3-4 brews (not including the two rinses you must do on the fresh leaves per package instructions.

I received it fast....I'm very happy with this tea better then I expected......It's full of flavor and very rich. I love my tea strong. When I got it in the mail I quickly made a cup and headed out for work, as I'm making my hour commute I tasted it and instantly fell in love with it. Lots of energy.

Shameful pushing of inferior product through bogus "reviews." We are experienced Puer drinkers, in China and here in U.S. This is just mediocre, and when I went back to check the reviews that swayed me to purchase, I see that one after another of the five star reviews were by people who had received it free or at a discount for their "fair, unbiased review"! Steer away from this one!! And I will look at the reviews and reviewers more carefully next time. It seems that perhaps the Amazon "Top 500" and "Top 1000" reviewers are enjoying a junket laced with free products that they help push to the detriment of the rest of us.

I drink many teas, my favorite is Lapsang Souchong, and I was looking for a new tea to try. I went with this Pu-erh Ripe tea, as I wanted a nice strong flavor.

First thing I did when I got the tea was weigh it, still in its paper wrapper it came to 240g, I am unsure if this is just loss of water weight or not, but if you are telling me it weighs 250g then it better... This is not the reason I took off a star though...

The reason I took off a star, after I brewed my tea I noticed a lot of twigs in my infuser, I could forgive 1 or 2 but in one cup I found 6 that were each about 1 inch long. This really makes me think that its low quality...

Anyway The aroma of this tea kind of reminds me of fermenting grass... its not horrible by any means. Not exactly the flavor I was looking for, but I will still drink it...
